Mastering Your Communication

The concept of communication and language has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.

As Antoni Lacinai expertly explains in his 2017 TEDx Talk - 6 Communication Truths That Everyone Should Know– it is evident that our “communication channels” have evolved over the years.

Antoni explains that a few million years ago, communication was based on Body Language and Voice. Then, a few hundred thousand years ago, the Spoken Word. Finally, a few thousand years ago, Written Language. As humanity progressed, so did the advent of electricity, which ultimately led to our current forms of communication – Radio, Telephones, Television, Newspapers, Fax, Computers, SMS, Email…. And of course, Social Media!

After watching Antoni’s TEDx Talk, it prompted me to think about the importance of our Words when we communicate. As different cultures, languages, and societies develop, the words we choose to communicate with have become more complex. For example, in American English, the idiom “it’s raining cats and dogs” may seem simple to understand in principle but can be incredibly difficult to translate to other languages and may not have the same cultural reference.

Therefore, it is essential to consider the brevity and clarity of our words when communicating. Mastering this can have a profound effect on your influence and the impact of your message.

Simply consider this – how many followers did Jesus Christ influence by using these three powerful words – You, Follow Me.
